A cycling and endurance-focused promotional shoot reconnecting with my roots in sports and athlete photography.
Before shifting into commercial and brand photography, my career began in outdoor sports and adventure work, photographing athletes and events across New Zealand from around 2009 onward. That period included working with global running brands and athletes, as well as early-stage endurance events that have since grown into internationally recognised fixtures.
Chasing fast-moving people in demanding environments was where I learned the fundamentals of timing, anticipation, and working instinctively. In 2013, I founded Good People Run, a New Zealand-based running project exploring the overlap between sport, creativity, and culture.
While my focus later expanded into broader commercial work, returning to the sports world has felt like a natural reconnection with how I originally learned to see.
This recent shoot featured Barrett Hocking, best known as the trumpet player for The Black Seeds, and also a highly capable multisport endurance athlete. The images were created for promotional use, with support from Christchurch-based outdoor retailer Further Faster.
If you’re an athlete looking for promotional or editorial-style imagery, feel free to get in touch.
